Burial Registers

The names of all the 34,000 individuals buried at Hyde Park Cemetery from 1856 to 1933 are included in the National Burial Index for England and Wales. This is available as a CD-ROM from the Federation of Family History Societies. Check the FFHS web site for details

Monumental Inscriptions

The inscriptions have also been transcribed by the Doncaster & District Family History Society and published on CD. Check out the DDFHS web site for details. The CD is also available for purchase online at GenFair.

This CD covers the same period (1856-1933) and provides almost 2,000 pages listing burials (surname, forename, date of death and age) equating to 40,000 entries taken from the burial registers. [Why this is more than the National CD is unclear at present]. Additionally over 7,000 monumental inscriptions are provided giving a reference identifying the section containing the grave. A selection of photos and a map showing the sections is also included.

While using the DDFHS CD a number of potential errors became apparent so an Errata PDF has been started ... but is a long way from being finished! Also be aware that the burial records here do not cover burials made after 1933 and that the transcription of MIs was done during the 1980s.

Also note that the map provided for the MIs does not give the locations of the recorded graves - just the section they are in. And, with no maps included for the burials either, finding the right location can be a time-consuming process.

However the good news is that the Friends do have access to the maps of grave plots and offer a grave finder service if searching in person is too difficult.

Pictures of headstones can be found online through voluntary contributions to international grave records websites such as Find A Grave; part of the Ancestry family history archive. You can check there for the latest status and search for memorials at the Hyde Park Cemetery, Doncaster entry.

War Graves

The cemetery contains some 108 graves of service personnel who died World War I and II. A full list containing the 111 names (3 had an alias) recorded by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission is given on the War Graves page.
